Trevor Linden, formerly van der Linden, (born April 11, 1970 in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada) is a professional Ice Hockey center in the NHL, playing for the Vancouver Canucks.
Linden was instrumental in helping his hometown Medicine Hat Tigers win consecutive Memorial Cup titles as a junior hockey player in the WHL.
Vancouver's 1st choice, 2nd overall (behind Mike Modano ), in the 1988 Entry Draft. Traded to the New York Islanders for Todd Bertuzzi,Bryan McCabe and New York's 3rd round choice (Jarkko Ruutu) in the 1998 Entry Draft, February 6, 1998. Traded to the Montreal Canadiens for a 1st round pick in the 1999 Draft on May 29th, 1999. Traded to the Washington Capitals at the 2001 NHL trading deadline with Dainius Zubrus and New Jersey's 2nd round choice in 2001, for Richard Zednik, Jan Bulis and Washington's 1st round choice in 2001. Traded to Vancouver along with a second round choice in either 2002 or 2003 for Vancouver's first-round round choice in the 2002 Entry Draft, and third-round choice in the 2003 Entry Draft on Nov. 10, 2001.
Linden became captain of the Vancouver Canucks in 1991, becoming one of the youngest players to become captain in the NHL. With players such as Pavel Bure, Jyrki Lumme and Kirk McLean, he led the Canucks to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1994. Despite great leadership from Linden and stellar goaltending from McLean, the Canucks lost in Game 7 against the New York Rangers.
Linden currently holds the franchise record for games played, goals scored and points for the Canucks after passing Stan Smyl's record of 764 points amassed as a Canuck. He also holds the Canucks' "Iron Man" record for the most consecutive number of games played (482 games - beginning on October 4th, 1990 and ending on December 3rd, 1996).
Linden is currently the President of the Executive Committee of the NHLPA, and is actively involved in negotiations with Gary Bettman and the NHL on a new CBA to put an end to the lock-out.
