A peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC or PICC line) is a form of intravenous access that can be used for a prolonged period of time, e.g. for long chemotherapy regimens or total parenteral nutrition. It is an alternative to Hickman lines and central lines, which have higher risks of infection or pneumothorax, and Port-a-Caths.

A PICC is inserted in a peripheral vein , e.g. in the arm, and then advanced until the tip rests in the superior vena cava.

PICCs are ususally inserted by radiologists using ultrasound and X-rays to confirm their insertion and placement. Complications may include hemorrhage, thrombosis and infection.
