Oakham is the county town of Rutland, England, and has a population of about 10,000. It is close by the artificial lake Rutland Water, and has road links to Melton Mowbray, Corby, and Stamford. Travellers to Leicester must go via Uppingham and go west on the A47.
Tourist attractions in Oakham include Oakham Castle (only the great hall of the castle remains standing) and All Saints Church . Another popular stop for sightseers is the open air marketplace that opens on Wednesday and Saturday.
The town is home to Oakham School, a highly rated public school.
Oakham, along with the rest of Rutland and Melton is represented in Parliament by Alan Duncan (Conservative).
