Magrath, Alberta

Magrath, a city in the province of Alberta, Canada, has a population of about 1,700 people. It is located near the Canadian Rockies and is 242km (150 miles) south of Calgary. It is a satellite community to Lethbridge, which lies 32km (20 miles) to the north.

Magrath started off as, and continues to be, a small farming community. It was known early on for its canal system which supplied water to the area farmers. At the time, the canal system was state of the art and was a huge undertaking.

Magrath's dominant religious group is, by far, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but many other religious groups call Magrath home.

The Magrath celebrations coincide with Pioneer Days in some of the western states such as Utah and Idaho. The celebrations are held on the third weekend of July.
