K. G. Ramanathan

Kollagunta Gopalaiyer Ramanathan (November 13, 1920 - May 10, 1992) was a front rank Indian mathematician of international reputation with distinguished and well-recognized achievements in number theory. He had contributed in no small measure to the emergence of a new generation of high-calibre mathematicians as well as to the general development of mathematical research and teaching in India. His Erdos number is 2.

He was born in Hyderabad in South India. He completed his graduation and post-graduation at Osmania University and the University of Madras respectively before going to Princeton where he completed his Ph.D under Emil Artin and also worked with Hermann Weyl and Carl Siegel . Thereafter he returned to India to work at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research at Pune.
