There was a Hervé Faye who was briefly Minister of Education in France in 1877 (for less than a month). This may or may not be the same person.

Hervé Auguste Étienne Albans Faye (1814 – 1902) was a French astronomer.

He studied comets, and discovered the periodic comet 4P/Faye .

He also studied the physics of the Sun.
