Ex ante vs. ex post

(Redirected from Ex-post)

Ex ante is a Latin term meaning "beforehand". "Ex ante" evaluations deal with forecasting and forecasted returns on invested money. Since some parameters are not known, they have to be estimated.

The opposite of ex ante is ex post, meaning "after the fact". In stochastic models, ex post calculations are those done with realized values.
