Dr. David Swann is a medical doctor and Alberta Liberal Member of Legistive Assembly .
Swann is the co-founder of the Calgary-based group CANESI (Canadian Network to End Sanctions on Iraq) which later became CANDIL (Canada Democracy and International Law).
In 2002, Swann was fired from his job of medical officer of health, for the Palliser Health Region in Alberta, for speaking out in favour of the Kyoto Accord. After much public controversy, he was offered his job back. He chose to decline the offer and instead spent the next two years focused on his work for the people of Iraq.
Dr. Swann was elected to the Alberta Legislature, as a Liberal in the Alberta general election on November 22, 2004. Along with Harry B. Chase and Dave Taylor , Swann was part of the re-emergence of provincial Liberals in Calgary which had been completely held by the Progressive Conservatives. Not surprisingly, he was subsequently named the Liberal environment critic in December, 2004.
