Cryptoexplosion

In geology, a cryptoexplosion structure is any roughly circular structure of unknown origin that was likely caused by a sudden, explosive release of energy resulting in notable localized deformation of rock strata. A cryptoexplosive structure may be caused by volcanic or tectonic activity, but it has no obvious relation to known vulcanism. Many such structures are eventually determined to have been formed by significant meteorite impacts.
