A complex polygon is a polygon which is not simple, i.e., it intersects itself. Therefore, unlike simple polygons, a complex polygon may not always be interpreted as a polygonal region.
Nevertheless, there are special cases of complex polygons that still have meaningful definitions of interior and exterior.
