Auto-ID Labs

Auto-ID Labs, previously known as the Auto-ID Center, is a federation of research universities working on an open standard for creating a "seamless global network" of physical objects. The federation was established in 1999; the network they've developed is at the heart of a proposal sponsored by EPCglobal and supported by European Article Numbering-Uniform Code Council, Wal-Mart, Hewlett-Packard, and others to use RFID and the Electronic Product Code in the identification of items in the supply chain for companies.

The universities within the federation are University of Adelaide, University of Cambridge, Fudan University. Keio University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and University of St. Gallen.
