Atlantic Sun Conference

Atlantic Sun Conference

The Atlantic Sun Conference is a college athletic conference which operates primarily on the east coast of the United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division I; the conference does not sponsor football, although some members have Division I-AA football programs, and three (Florida Atlantic, Troy, and UCF) have Division I-A football programs.

Current members

The Atlantic Sun will soon lose all three of its members with Division I-A football programs. Troy, which joined the Sun Belt Conference for football in 2004, will join that conference in all sports in 2005. In the same year, UCF will abandon its memberships in the Mid-American Conference (football only) and the Atlantic Sun (all other sports) in favor of all-sports membership in Conference USA. In 2006, Florida Atlantic, which joined the Sun Belt for football alongside Troy in 2004, will become an all-sports member of that conference.

In 2005, Georgia State will leave the Atlantic Sun and join the Colonial Athletic Association.

In 2005, three institutions, two being in Division II, will join the Atlantic Sun Conference. East Tennessee State will depart from the Southern Conference and join the Atlantic Sun Conference. Kennesaw State University and the University of North Florida will leap from Division II and be admitted into this Division I conference.
