Athabasca Falls in Jasper National Park at just 23 metres high it is not known for its height. Instead it is known for the the force of the falling water due to the quanity of water flowing. A layer of hard quartzite has allowed the falls to cut into the softer limestone below carving the short trench canyon and a number of potholes. White water rafting often starts below the falls to travel downstream on the Athabasca River to Jasper.
